Located at the northern tip of Lake Como, where the Adda river flows into the lake, the town of Colico is a perfect blend of history, nature, and peaceful charm.
Once a military stronghold due to its strategic location, Colico has a rich history of conquests and dominations that remains visible through the impressive fortified structures of Forte Montecchio Nord and Forte di Fuentes.
Just few minutes from the main train station the windsurfing and kitesurfing center of Jordan’Surf is located. Only an hour’s drive from Milan, there you can be immersed in beautiful mountain lake scenery for a quick afternoon or a full holiday. Jordan’Surf sits on a beautiful grass beach and offers windsurfing lessons for all levels along with many other sports activities.
This is the most famous spot in Lake Como, where you can enjoy your favorite water sport surrounded by the mountains and an amazing panorama. This is the side of the lake where the famous “Breva“ breeze blows from the south from March until October, providing a steady wind ideal for sailing and other water sports.
The Breva is a moderately strong wind, with a steady direction and speed around 15 knots. Being a thermal wind generated by temperature, the Breva always calms with the setting of the sun and sometimes even earlier, depending on the weather conditions. At the beginning of autumn, when the lake water is still warm, but the temperatures in the valleys are no longer warm enough, the Breva begins to calm for the season, to reappear again in the spring.
Because of the scenery and the Breva wind, Lake Como is a popular place for kitesurfing and windsurfing. But compared to Lake Garda, Lake Como is still somewhat of a hidden gem, and not as crowded.
Windsurfing was born in the 1960s thanks to the innovation of surfing enthusiasts who were looking for a new way to surf. The sport was created by combining a surfboard with a sail that allowed practitioners to harness the power of the wind.
Kitesurfing emerged in the 1990s as a fusion of disciplines that included surfing, paragliding and kite surfing. The initial idea behind kitesurfing was to allow surfers to harness the power of the wind through the use of a kite, allowing them to perform impressive jumps and manoeuvres on the waves.
