” We love this country like no one ever has, morning , evening and sunday…if they make us nomads as they done before we will return victors over this land ”
Sghaïer Ouled Ahmed
A land with ancient roots going back to prosperous and thriving Carthage founded in 814 BC, Tunisia is a land of amazing contrasts, the result of a unique confluence of geography and history.
A walk along Avenue Habib Bourguiba in Tunis not unlike a stroll on the Champs-Elysées in Paris, until you reach its end, leading into the Medina, whose facades and interiors transport you far from Paris and into the fantastic and exotic realm of the tales of the Arabian Nights.
The narrow streets, bustling with crowds or quietly lined with palaces and historic buildings, inspired the artist Paul Klee who noted in his diary : “Reality and dream simultaneously, and myself makes a third in the party, completely at home here.”
Against this rich cultural and architectural backdrop are the bright and saturated colors of the nearby sea and a friendly and welcoming people, charmingly flattered by the attention and intrusion of the photographer and his camera into their lives.
