Covered entirely by a veil of Chantilly lace complete with a gold and crystal crown, and wearing a long chiffon and lace slip dress, music icon Madonna arrived almost hidden at the Dolce and Gabbana fashion show, which featured a tribute to her career. Her star power was to many the highlight of this year’s Milan Fashion Week.

But many other celebrities made this a star-studded Fashion Week. Fendi kicked off proceedings with an eclectic show featuring Shailene Woodley, Jade Thirlwall, and Marina Abramović. Maya Jama and internet boyfriend Jack Harlow were seen arriving at the Marni show. Meanwhile, Sarah Paulson, Carey Mulligan and Simone Ashley all turned out for Prada, while Dakota Johnson, Jessica Chastain and Nicola Coughlan were among the guests at the Gucci show.

There was also Kendall Jenner, Julianne Moore, Jacob Elordi, the controversial athlete Imane Khelif, Yara Shahidi, Amy Jackson, Ronn Moss, Naomi Ackie, Normani, Jameela Jamil, Imani Lansiquot, Gene Gallagher, Dakota Johnson, Khalid, and Annabella Hilal, who were among the stars that brightened up the many shows. Clearly, as Carlo Capasa, president of the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana expressed, Milan Fashion Week is much more than a fashion catwalk.

Milan Women’s Fashion Week took place September 17-23 2024. It was the occasion to present the Spring Summer 2025 collections, and the week included 57 physical shows, eight digital shows, six appointment-only shows, 69 presentations, and 33 other events.

It was a Milan Fashion Week without Armani’s famous show, as he presented his collection in New York this year to coincide with his Madison Avenue store opening. But as an addition there was the return of Fiorucci, the iconic brand from the 1970s. Spring/Summer 2025 collections swung between past and future, with some designers looking through rose-tinted spectacles at bygone eras, while others followed Alice down the rabbit hole into a world of wonder. Still, many chose to simply celebrate the everyday, embracing the magic and pleasures of the mundane.

Notably, SS25 Fashion Week widened its lens to enlarge its scope: the show was expanded by half a day, and welcomed emerging new talent and independents alongside the established brands like Fendi, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, and Gucci. Among the newcomers Chiccomao, Federico Cina, and Phan Dang Hoang took to the catwalk. Young designer Susan Fang walked the runway as part of the Supported by Dolce & Gabbana project. Independents included Marco Rambaldi, Del Core, Calcaterra, Sunnei, Andreadamo, Francesca Liberatore, Vivetta, Avav and The Attico, all united by their independent, non-mainstream, irreverent fashion, outside the box but well-centered on the present.
